As we're all probably well aware, the Sony-invented Blu-ray disc and its related players won the "Format Wars" for the Hi-Def DVD successor format.
Because I have a somewhat considerable DVD library,I wasn't going to bother getting a new Blu-ray player till at least 2009, but since we have HDTVs and Blu-rays will eventually be the standard format, I bought a player while I was Christmas shopping online.
My player, a Samsung BP-1500, plays Blu-ray discs (of course), but I made sure I had a model that could play CDs and DVDs as well. (Apparently, not all Blu-ray players do this because of the coding and software involved.) It was not cheap, but at the same time it is worth it because I can still buy/play DVDs and get Blu-ray discs when I can afford them (they're still pricey).
Does anybody else have a Blu-ray player? Are you planning to get one this year, or are you going to wait until prices come down a bit more?
