Default Fable exits to desktop after installing SB X-Fi

I've been playing Fable TLC for PC and enjoying it immensely, despite a few
odd crashes it's been working very well for me. Now, after upgrading my sound
card (old card was an nVidia nForce2 "SoundStorm" which was integrated into
my motherboard) to a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi "Fatal1ty", Fable no longer
starts. I have not had any problems running or playing other applications or
games.

The symptoms are as follows: Upon starting Fable (by double-clicking the
desktop icon or any other method), the splash screen is displayed for a
fraction of a second and the screen goes black. It remains black for a few
seconds and then exits back to Windows. Task Manager shows that the Fable
process is no longer running. There are no error messages, no event log
messages, nothing. Different Hardware Acceleration settings for my sound card
have had no effect. I am using the latest available drivers for both sound
and graphics, and have downloaded all applicable updates from Windows Update.
I am using the Swedish retail version of Fable: TLC.

Any assistance on resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated.
