Default Why the congratulating?

Hmm...

Over the past few days, weeks, months, etc., I have started to wonder why people congratulate people for reaching certain amounts of posts. I've made threads on IGN and stuff like "My 1K post" and whatever, but I just recently started to think about it.

Why are we congratulating people for getting posts these days? It never made sense to me... I'm not criticizing anyone, I'm just wondering where it started.

So someone makes a big thread, with the usual babes, thanks, etc. They put in their little message saying "I've been around for a while and this is my 5K post "

Then there are the usual follow-up posts, congratulating the member on reaching this milestone amount of posts... I never really thought about it, but why do people congratulate people for reaching X amount of posts?

Congratulations for posting a bunch of words on a site?
Congratulations for being around here and reading a bunch of topics and then replying with stuff?

I guess it's just one of those things that people do without thinking about it. I just don't really get where the Congratulations came from- lol... I'm gonna be thinking about this for a while...

Anyone have any sort of answer?

I dunno what can be said for some users, but I pick a star and aim for it. For example: at IGN I'm going for the 10k star. If people want to congratulate me on that, it's fine with me.

I congratulate because if whoever it is makes a topic for making X amount of posts, it must mean a lot to that person for making the topic about it. So why not congratulate? That's how I look at it.

It gives you a PC+1.

Nah, it's to be nice to people for spanding so much time on the boards to achieve that mark.

The title is all out of place, so I need a longer title for it to look good. Ok...

Well, I think my point was missed- I know its a nice thing to do, I just never got where it started- lol... I would like to know who was the first one that decided to say "Congratulations"... maybe it was meant to be sarcastic- lol.
