Okie dokie.
... to take its place. The dialogue. Wilder extenuates...
Shouldn't you use a hyphen for "the dialogue" since it is only a fragment?

and the short contents of Our Town becomes just a microcosm for the world that is our town, and all of the themes central to it.
The last sentence is what is key, that the stage devices used in the play transmits themes through the a smaller level (The fictional small town) to a much larger level.
It will argue how these stage devices are effective in terms of how the themes that they represent connect to the real world.

It's not that confusing, he's just using a lot of big words.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Faction, but here's the gist:
Our Town, written by Thornton Wilder is known for not using props or stagecraft. In more and more plays you see props/stagecraft, so when Wilder removes them he needs something to replace them. So he uses dialogue. In 3 acts, he shows the focus of the play through the characters' speech, gestures, and through themes. Through using these methods, he approach the play in a way that seems much larger than it is, without props. In that way, it can reflect on our world.
Eh...it was really tough to substitute in "dumb" words.

Yes, that is very nearly what it is. Except, he didn't find dialogue to replace stage props, what he did was to remove stage props and therefore, placing that emphasis on Dialogue. The audience of the play would essentially be forced into paying attention to the actors and what they are doing/saying.
