You should be able to. You can either pick an avatar from the list or have your own custom one. To have a custom one, you must get it hosted somewhere, and then paste the link in the appropiate field

hmmm...i tried that and it wouldn't let me...or is custom avys only for mods/admins still?

Well, It works for me. I tried it. And its for everybody. Can you please describe what steps you took to have the custom avatar?
