In a situation where your pet animal is severly injured and any surgery is impossible, then it is okay, even though it is a painful scene to experience. But it is more logical to have someone end a life in a happy condition rather than waiting later only to deppen your emotions for them not to die; eventually it only becomes worse for everyone.
