6~@ ***MY REVIEW***@~ 9
Quote:
ok ok ok heres the skinny
Dynasty Warriors 4 starts off with a really sweet red fiery box.. pretty good box......
now to the game.. the controls are pretty fluid.. even tho its the same shit.. it feels VERY different.. meaning.. its the same game control.. but your mind makes you THINK its different because of how much better it looks.. this mainly because if your like me you've been playing the original so much that the new look makes you think things..
now.. another great thing about this game is the new costumes.. the costumes are great.. and if they aren't, you can rest easy since there are 6 costumes per character.. that you aquire over the course of time.. i've yet to know how to aquire the 6 costumes but i have 2 now for Xiao Dun
now.. the weapons system upgrades a little differently.. the weapons themselves niether have element abilities nor must you find them.. instead the weapons upgrade.. and you attach gems onto the weapon, the gems are found like normal items on the battle field, hence you find no more weapons since you only get one that you upgrade with time..
this game is litered with new features too.. the Taunt button which was said in some reviews to be useless pretty much is.. unless you see an opening and wish to press it, it freezes the people around you who are enemies and makes the soldiers around you attack instantly.. its not as useful as that last line sounded since most heros take a second to power up the taunt.. which leaves you brutally open..
the Create a Character is very very very <--- x10 limited.. its just there for novelty seemingly.. it is good if you want to activate the Nu Wa or Fu Xi weapons simply because they aren't in the game anymore..
the new characters that ARE in the game however add cooler looking weapons and more variety in the mix.. plus a new feature called "dueling" in which enemy generals challange you to a duel in which case you have around 30 seconds to agree or decline.. a duel pits you and the general in a 1 on 1 death match where you have 45 seconds to kill them or else its a draw and you go back into the battlefield..
the enemies overall are harder initially.. they get easy with time.. (as they always do) but they're tougher to kill right off the bat..
also now campaigns aren't restricted to single missions.. now you got entire Campaigns with multiple stages in each Campaign (guan du + killing lu bu and Cao Cao's attempted assassination are all part of 1 Campaign) you select which part of the campaign you want to to start first, but they order it along with the proper order in which it is recorded (top to bottom with earliest being at the top)
the Opening Edit, for those who remember it in Part 3 is 100000000 times better now.. the opening is so much fucking cooler.. alot more badass too.. only down side is that this time it can only be unlocked by unlocking EVERY general, not only some.. so its a hassle thats work unlocking..
also the items no longer have stats.. they have levels much like the weapons hence you can get two Tiger Necklaces.. one being level 2 and one being level 5.. im not sure exactly what level it ends.
also there are no more name ranks, only numbered ranks.. and the narration of the missions before they start is omitted now you have to read in order to know the history of the battle..
the dubbing is still cheesy but i always loved the dubbing and now is no different.. its actually less annoying then the third so far.. but alas they removed the Japanese voice hence no need for actual subtitles.. and hence were removed
also worth mention is the music.. the music is VERY different.. still has the cool rock tunes, plus awesome remixes of older rock tracks from the third installment.. only this time they added more asian sound.. like going into the encyclopedia you'll hear probably the best song in the entire game.. a very beautiful track that plays with a piano, and a violin.. definatly awesome stuff..
all of this with more and more added on top.. makes this game so polished.. so good.. so much better than its preceedor that it only makes me with others followed suit
Gameplay - 10 - anyone who knows this game, knows that straight foward hack and slash complimented by hundreds of enemy soldiers attacking you at once.. is enough to make it gold, but adding a cool item and weapon system, as well as giving people more bang for thier gameing dollar.. is just worth every bit
Sound - 9.0 - the new music is definatly more asian than the past DW's but anyone who appreciates awesome instruments.. and flaring guitars.. will love this album even more.. the dubbing has also improved.. since less of the voices are annoying.. and everything is revved up just a little bit more.. I only wish they added the commentary before the matches, but thats only a little pet peeve of my own.
Graphics 9 - all of the textures are improved since the last game.. and anyone who's played the last game knows what im talking about.. the slowdown has also been reduced.. and you'll definatly notice that right away when you play it, better graphics, more characters on the screen, less slow down.. thats a 100% improvement.. add on top of that the ammount of costumes and weapons gfx they added into this one as opposed to the last.. and you got game that just anal rapes its preceedor
Replay Value - 10 - this is just a game that demands your attention.. i doubt you'll take it out of your ps2, and if you do, it won't be for long, the game has way too much to unlock and its worth every bit of effort you put into them.. the difficulty is hard at first.. but it'll become alot easier later, so easy that it may actually turn people off.. but thats debatable accordingly to your skill, note that there is NO VERY HARD mode in this version.. so if you want a real challange, you may end up having to fight in the final stages at hard mode to get that.. because thats as deep as your going to get it.. plus they've added more different types of multiplayer matches and more challange matches.. oh yeah.. this game is going to last you a LOOOOOOOONG time..
Carn's official Score - 9.8 - this game is just so good.. i can easily say that this is either tied.. or has toppled Die by the Sword as my all time favorite hack and slash game (and if any of you know what Die by the Sword is, and know how old it is.. you know how long its been my favorite..), and ranked up there as one of my top 3 favorite games ever.. (right up there with Grim Fandango and Terranigma) this is so close to perfection, that im almost willing to give it a perfect score.. but nothing is perfect.. but hey.. thats for sequals to fix..
Recommended IMMEDIATELY
