There's always a chicken inside that egg, and there wouldn't be an egg if it wasn't for the chicken being in it. So I must go with the chicken.

I'm reading this book right now for one of my classes, "Sophie's World" and they discuss this question as a matter of fact. The book mentioned an "idea chicken" and they asked which came first, the actual chicken, or the idea of the chicken. The "idea chicken" was just a concept that humans came up with after seeing a certain amount of them. Something like that, I didn't completely understand it at the time.

But that doesn't really correlate with the chicken/egg debate.

The chicken is an actual chicken and an egg is a potential chicken. Actuality has to precede potentiality so therefore the chicken came first
