Adam - You put "hurt" in quotes like it isn't true. How about the chickens that are shoved four to crate (about the size of a dresser draywer) for most of their lives? How about the animals that are shoved into trucks so hard (to do it quickly) that their bones break on their way to the slaughterhouse? If you think it hurts them any less just becuase they're animals... well, it doesn't. If meat was more humanely obtained, I might be less worried about it... but it TERRIBLE in some of those place. (Not all) Also, it's a big health issue too. It really takes more than one reason to change your eatting habits.
