Default Victoria Secret Annual Show Cancelled

The transformation of the US into a puritanical society got a little closer today when Victoria Secret announced that it could cancel its annual lingerie show TV coverage.

I guess it makes sense from a business perspective because the government is fining anything they don't like. It is a troubling time for non-religious programming.

After the Janet Jackson nipple incident, it is becoming clear that it is ok to show death and violence on tv (be it news or movies) but showing a human body is morally repressible. Backward thinking it seems.

I agree with Barca. Something's seriously wrong with a such society.

Btw, I've always found it really stupid that all the nipples (and other "dirty" parts) are erased from the photos in the VS catalogues. Especially when the models can have a pose/look saying "f**k me"....

Yeah, they look like barbie dolls.

"Okay...we're gonna take a picture of you with your nipples obviously showing...but we're gonna erase the nipples so it looks like you're a freak with no nipples."

well damn, they might as well cancel all these beauty pageants then, like Mrs USA or whatever they call it. Would be nice to see VS keep the show production rolling on Satellite or Cable.

If VS is looking for a new way to promote their product, then I would mind seeing the models walk the malls in the latest lingeir out fits . At least their is no ban on walking models is it?

As long as people can't see that they are real women, with nipples and all, perhaps it's ok. For now.....

Toubling.... Nippelgate and now cancelled VS... :-\

Along those lines, Clearchannel (a huge radio company) has taken Howard Stern off 15 stations as they fear being fined.... Welcome to the land of the free speach!

It is easy for the government to violate the first amendment and fine speech based on the content when people allow them. The religious right of this country would rather the government ban speech it finds offensive than just not to pay attention to it. As time goes by, the government abridges more and more speech (even political speech).

If people are offended by women in lingeree, they could simply turn the channel on their TVs or just turn th TV off, but these people believe that society should not allow ANYTHING that upsets them.

I am not a fan of Howard Stern, but the FCC's action troubles me because this is obviously only the first step. I am sure that the televangelists will not be taken off the air, though, even though they offend many people (including me).

There will soon be demonstrators in the streets of the US:

"Nipples are bad, sex destroys you!"
"We want guns, and violence too!"

Seriously, all you US citizens in here, please tell me what is it with nudity and all sexual things in there? Why are they considered so bad? They are natural things and everyone does them, right? So what's all the fuss about?

And why isn't there thousands and thousands of calls every day to the network companies to complain about the violence on tv?

I just don't get it.

I just dont get it either, you cant show a nipple,. but you can show a bare ass on NYPD, whatever show that is. Or on the news, they are allowed to show half naked or sometime naked babies,. America is so screwed up right now.

Had it been a white woman that showed her nipples during the Super Bowl, we wouldnt be here today with all these FCC fines and shit, Believe what you wanna believe but race is a key factor in every damn decision here in America.
