The Statue of Liberty
After 9.11, most national monuments were closed due to security concerns. While some have opened, the Statue of Liberty has remained closed. People can take the ferry to Liberty Island, but no one is allowed inside.
Should we allow the Federal Government to keep the Statue of Liberty closed or do you think that keeping the statue closed means "that the terrorists are winning." LOL

Who would want to go into that thing anyways? I mean after all it was a present by the French and it is commonly known that Americans despise France and all other independant thinking countries...

It is the National Park Service, not the federal government, which has closed the Statue of Liberty. It's also set to re-open this summer, after they've made some repairs and improvements.
Who wouldn't want to visit the Statue of Liberty? It's a very impressive monument, and it's a very powerful symbol of freedom. I've been up to the crown level once in my life, and I'll do it again the next time I'm in the New York area.
Forgot to add the link from the park service...

It will not be fully open this summer, although they are promising to open the Observation Deck at the top of the pedestal and no farther.

I doubt you will be able to go to the crown observation deck because I have read that it will be closed "indefinitely."

Say, Sartup, I read that some Congressmen wanted to ship us the Statue back, think they'll do it?

Nah. Congress will be too busy removing the word "French" from common language (i.e. french fries --> freedom fries).
And, can you imagine how much it would cost to ship?

Rename it to Statue de Stupidite Humaine and put in the most conspicuous place you can find as a warning for the future generations...

It can't be too expensive. After all, it was shipped 120 years ago too.
(I'd bet it would cost more to replace every "french fries" writing ;) )
