I just hope that when you do come to terms with how you choose to live your life that you will be happy and content with your decisions.

If my "beliefs" can't hold up to atleast reasonable/logical scientific rigor & criticism then they don't deserve to be upheld. hopefully it will be a self-governed society able to effeciently subdue the brunt of natural law. I hope you're happy & content w/ you decisions as well as w/ everyone

Thank you, I am indeed happy. I cannot say that there are not things in this Government run life that I do not hesitate to support or in fact even like, but over all...life is great.
I do think it is wonderful though that the people on this site...well at least most, can be friends and converse even though many of our beliefs are different. It really does make for interesting conversations.

For me , whoever is living, breathing and growing is untitled to and that's why for me killing a pregnant woman is killing 2 people indead, an adult and a child.

Not necessarily. What if it was manslaughter, and not outright murder? Say I dropped a brick off of a bridge, not intending to kill someone, but I hit and killed a pregnant woman. That is, by definition, manslaughter, as the intent was not to kill, and it was due to recklessness on my part. Now, should I be charged with 2 counts of manslaughter, or 1? It makes a huge difference in the rest of my life.

It's still murder, though, under US law, it's 3rd degree murder.

In addition, average jailtime for manslaughter in 2003-2004 was 5.9 years. Average jailtime for murder was 18.2 years, with a non-parole period of 14.4 years. Last time I checked, it's not hard to live for 18 years after you've killed someone.

You're kidding right? Let's say I'm a construction worker. I'm working on a building (30 stories up), rebuilding a chimney. I've got a pile of bricks up with me (presume it is a flat roof), and I'm setting them up. Now at some point, I pick one up and slip and the brick falls out of my hands and over the side.
At the same time, down in the yard, is the construction site receptionist who's pregnant. She's wearing a hard hat because she needed to talk to the foreman, but she's still in the yard. The brick comes down and hits her in the hat. If the brick kills her (which can happen, even with a hard hat, from that height), should I be convicted of a double murder?

There was no intent, it was purely an accident and despite all of the precaution taken, someone still died (happens all the time, that's why they're called accidents). Well? What should my punishment be? Oh, and who is going to pay the bills for my family while I'm in prison?

The law wouldn't convict me in this situation (as it stands now). The law would treat it as a horrible accident and nothing more. The construction company might be fined for some sort of improper safety measure, but basically, it isn't murder.

I agree with you, Guru, that murdering a pregnant woman (and her child) should be two murders, but you can't make a statement that if "some idiot accidentally dropped a brick off of a wall", that the "idiot" should do murder time for it.
