Give the mouse a cookie, and he will ask for a glass of milk.

It is definately not the sole reason for the descent of the Roman Empire, however, it carries a very large portion of the blame. It was the sole reason that the roman empire became a victim of blackmail blah blah blah.
I need to read fatboys comments better....

We're there now. If it's not a war, why are we negotiating?

lol This doesnt qualify as a WW3.
If a foreing country invades yours, does that mean that you have no right to demand expulsion of any foreing army? It seems to me that this is what bin laden and other arabs are demanding but you say if you give in to that demand they will ask for the entire world  .

Huh? When did I say that?
I qualify a "World War" when the participants are the major world powers. Since bin Laden extended his offer to the major world powers, wouldn't this qualify?

Major world powers are countries. Osama is one peron heading a terrorist group. War per definition is between more than a hand full of terrorists and a country. If your definition would apply, Spain would be at "war" with the ETA...? Barca, do you have a war in Spain that nobody knew about?
At no point in time should Al-Quaida be validated by any kind of treaty, conversation or other. Period.

Unfortunately the offer is not worth the tape it is recorded onto, it is merely a obviously quite effective way of enacting the oldest military strategem in the books, that of Divide and Conquer, bin laden is relying on the wests own policies of free speech to defeat itself just as ho chi mihn did in the vietnam conflict, the biggest advantage that fundamentalists have over western powers is their total and complete belief that they are right and as is the case with all fanatics they are unwilling to even entertain the fact that someone elses opinions might also be valid, the biggest problem with this present world conflict is that both sides have diametrically opposing beliefs this renders negotiation impossible as there can never be a middle ground for comprimise.

No. War, by definition, is "an armed conflict between countries or groups that involves killing and destruction", or if you prefer "a struggle or competition between opposing forces or for a particular end".
But definitions aren't really important since al Queda has declared war (jihad) against the US. Furthermore, if bin Laden is negotiating for peace between his organization and Europe, then that presupposes that something other than peace exists currently.

Validated or not, they're going to keep killing people until Europe either agrees to their demands or kills them all. Since Europe isn't at "war" with al Queda, they'll probably find it very hard to kill them all.

Fatboyshare:
Following your logic, you must be aghast at the way Bush is handling the situation then?
