Itīs official. The war has definitely turned in favour of the resistence. When before they had several groups pulling in several directions at once, now they have united under the same banner, making life for the US troops a whole lot grimmer.
And the strategies used by US generals arenīt helping any, either! What do they think they will achieve by striking a mosque, in the heart of shiite holy ground? Not only they will have to deal with the ever more growing numbers of iraqi shiites joining in the fight, now they will have to be on their guard against shiites swarming from the neighbouring Iran.
The Ayatollah regime has never been very fond of the US, and now they are even less. Even though the Iranian government denies any direct involvement, they have absolutely no way to stop the thousands and thousands of iranians crossing the border to join their iraqi brotherīs "Jihad".
Yup, in a time when the US needed calm and to think things over more than never before, this "bravaddo" and hotheadedness will cost them dearly. Infact, it already has.
"U.S. Marines battled insurgents for control of the Sunni Muslim stronghold in Fallujah Wednesday, calling in airstrikes against a mosque compound where witnesses said dozens were killed in six hours of fighting. An anti-U.S. uprising led by a radical Shiite cleric raged for the fourth day in southern cities."

I believe that it has been fairly obvious to anyone with a miitary background that the strategies used in this conflict left a lot to be desired. Both military and politically, the entire campaign has been an unmitigated disaster. A fairly good example is the mind boggling fact that a year after the hostilities began, there are still iraqi city suffering from generalized power cuts!! And the only thing that runs in the taps of iraqi homes is a rust impregnated sludge that the CPA insists in calling "water"! And they wonder why people rebel?
PS:
Find out what has happened to some armour vests, that should have been issued as standard gear for the troops on the ground, but many have not received one, and thus are fighting with no protective gear other than the kevlar helmet.I posted this link on another thread, but i think this thread is more indicated to discuss this.
