the relevant treaty is not the geneva convention, but the Haager Landkriegsordnung from 1907 and its amendments, it protects POWs under the condition, that they were lawful combatants as defined in article 1 and it protects the civilian population as long as they dont interfere with combat. the treaty is binding international law and has since often been used in war crime trials.

though there is a special provision for militia, that is responding to invading troops within the first hours, when there has not yet been enough time to organize or to distribute military insignia, this obviously does not apply here.

edit: for those, who are unable to find this treaty, here is the result of a google-search on "Haager Landkriegsordnung" with about 3000 results: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...iegsordnung%22

If you think the chopper footage was bad, think again.
I just found another similar incident footage, from ground troops shooting a downed iraqi and then cheer like they scored a touchdown.
This is getting better by the minute!

Click on link, and press play if it doesnīt start right away.

"That was awesome, letīs do it again!" he said. Asshole!!

@Genius:

Sorry, made a search on that Haager Landkriesnordlung thing and turn up empty. Either you mispelled it, or it doesnīt exist on the web. If you know about it, how about posting a link, like you were asked?
Btw, regarding the treatment of enemy combatants, woundeds, POWs and all that, check

THE UNITED STATES ARMY FIELD MANUAL
The Law of Land Warfare, 1956

2.Purposes of the Law of War

The conduct of armed hostilities on land is regulated by the law of land warfare which is both written and unwritten. It is inspired by the desire to diminish the evils of war by:

a.Protecting both combatants and non-combatants from unnecessary suffering;

b.Safeguarding certain fundamental human rights of persons who fall into the hands of the enemy, particularly prisoners of war, the wounded and sick, and civilians; and

c.Facilitating the restoration of peace....

3.Basic Principles

a. Prohibitory Effect. The law of war places limits on the exercise of a belligerent's power in the interests mentioned in paragraph 2 and requires that belligerents refrain from employing any kind or degree of violence which is not actually necessary for military purposes and that they conduct hostilities with regard for the principles of humanity and chivalry.

and check it also in a more complete version here:

Law of Land Warfare
http://www.combatindex.com/law_of_land_warfare.html

It turns out i was not naive at all, like some said i was, when i said war should be civil and fought with decency and chivalry. Infact, the real naive ones here are those who believe there is nothing we can do to change the status quo.

:rolleyes:

Oh, man!! The evidence continues to pile up:
Another footage of yet another situation of blatant disrespect for human life, by the US military, again.(in photos)
But this time, itīs on civilians protesting on the streets. A Hummvee drives by and the trooper opens fire directly at the thick of the crowd. There are no weapons on sight, except for the american wielded weapons.The protest was being conducted to protest against the shooting of iraqi civilians that had occurred during another demonstration.This means they will protest again, against THAT shooting, and the US will come out and shoot some more. And then they will protest against that OTHER shooting, and the wheel goes round and around and around again. Untill one side runs out of protesters or the other side runs out of bullits to shoot!
Itīs ironic, isnīt it?
:rolleyes:
