Which artist (painter, playright, composer, philosopher, author, etc.) has contributed the most to society? Why?

Aristoteles. If mankind would have accepted his brilliance earlier, we would have travelled to the moon in the 10th century instead of the 20th. No, don't say it: I'm definetly not exaggerating.

depends on your definition of artist, because ultimately everyone has done something that can be considered artwork, then again i think some stuff in exhibitions is purely crap, but they call it art.
