I've heard that you really can't actually delete any email that you send or recieve via Gmail at all. You can remove it from the listing that your client calls up, so you don't have to see it again yourself, if you don't want to, but it still remains safely stored in Google's massive storage database virtually forever. They scan all the email to match up the user with specifically targeted advertising based on a keyword seach of your emails.
