Reports from different Japanese sources confirmed different kinds of defects on the first shipment:

Button Pressed, but it never come back up

im getting ds for christmas but ill probably end up getting psp for my birthday and then xbox's handheld the christmas after.

What? Microsoft has no plans of making a handheld console.

these defects all seem kind of inor and easy to fix on Sony's part. I am just happy I live in the states. I'll let the Japs have the crappy ones.

I'm not getting any of the handhelds for a while though, this all will be ironed out (and any possible problems in the U.S.) by the time I buy one.

Even if they were, if it was going to be out by Christmas 2005 we'd have heard about it by now.
