Note the difference between Muslim extremists (ppl who do these acts) and actual Muslims.

You're right, the sane Muslim leaders (not all) are opposed to these groups, but they aren't vociferously so, and they rarely take strong action to stop them (possibly because until recently, Israel and non-Muslims were the only targets). If they did take such steps, do you think that these groups would flourish as they do?
The real shame is that in not being vocal in their opposition, and in not taking steps to stop these actions, many people in the world get a skewed view of Islam.
It would benefit Islam if Islamic leaders were more outspoken against such groups. I applaud the ones who are.
