Not necessarily. What if it was manslaughter, and not outright murder? Say I dropped a brick off of a bridge, not intending to kill someone, but I hit and killed a pregnant woman. That is, by definition, manslaughter, as the intent was not to kill, and it was due to recklessness on my part. Now, should I be charged with 2 counts of manslaughter, or 1? It makes a huge difference in the rest of my life.
