Yeah get Twin Snakes on the Cube. Then MGS 2 then 3 on the PS2 if you can. Although I feel the original MGS is more of a proper introduction.
EDIT: While we're on the subject. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is another awesome game on the GC. Get it.
