I think some people can now get out their "I told you so" signs

But is anyone actually surprised, that the Bush administration is trying to do this through the backdoor?
Well, actually i am. Making headway to instate a draft behind peopleīs back will only be counterproductive for the Bush administrationīs goals, so i donīt know what the hell are they thinking of.
The draft was almost a sure thing, however the terms in wich it presents itself are quite a surprise.
Exactly when the Bush admin needs public support the most, this under-the-table dealings will cut off many would be supporters for the coming elections. Many people will consider carefully the chance that their husbands, sons and grand-sons might end up fighting a war they didnīt wish for, and they might lash out against Bush, using the elections as a very effective weapon.
Of course this all depeds on what Kerry has in mind, regarding Iraq and the draft, if he wins. If Kerryīs policies donīt stand out clearly from Bushīs in these issues, chances are many people will be left in a political limbo, and even abstein or vote for some other obscure candidate.
What i wasnīt surprised to find out was about that Canada not being an option for draft dodgers. If the Bush admin had clear intentions of instating draft, they had to close the backdoor to prevent many thousands of young men who would rather jump country than serve in a war they donīt agree with. They still have the conscience objector card to play, if thatīs allowed in the US. Or they can go south, instead of north.
Or maybe France will vounteer to receive them as aplicants for political asylum! That would be a laugh!

Since Bush has shown that war is the first option to any perceived crisis, I predict that a lot of people will be getting those happy little letters to report for service.
That letter is where we separate men from boys. There are a lot of would-be Rambos spewing fighting words from the confort of their living room. Letīs see how many hold up to those words and do their part, and how many tuck their tales between their legs and run for cover, now that they are bound to end up in Iraqīs bubbling caldron.
Weīve all heard them, "I would blast them all to hell", "killīem all", "bomb those ragheads to the stone age" and that sort of thing. But now that there is actually a good chance they might findselfs buried from the neck down in that shithole, it will be fun to see how many keep their "high spirits".
