Actually, I think this is a good thing. It hurts like the dickens (not as bad as it does in Europe - I mean, geez, $100 to fill up your car!?) but it comes at a pretty good time. With the hybrids getting more attention and fuel cells getting a little media time, rising gas prices might be just the answer to push consumers into asking for, and buying, more fuel efficient vehicles.

For those who don't know it, Schwartzenegger (Governor of California) has funded building hydrogen stations along the highways of California. It's this kind of leadership + better alternatives + sustained high gas prices that will get us off the greasy nipple.

Oh yea, this "Don't buy gas for a day" thing will never happen. At any given time in America there are hundreds of thousands of delivery trucks on the roads. These guys are not going to let their trucks run dry, and miss their deliveries, because of some email. Planes will continue to fly and commerce will go on.
