It is the National Park Service, not the federal government, which has closed the Statue of Liberty. It's also set to re-open this summer, after they've made some repairs and improvements.

Who wouldn't want to visit the Statue of Liberty? It's a very impressive monument, and it's a very powerful symbol of freedom. I've been up to the crown level once in my life, and I'll do it again the next time I'm in the New York area.

Forgot to add the link from the park service...
