I guess I would qualify it with "organized religion is bad". Organized religion allows those who would do bad do so without accepting responsibility for their actions. They justify their actions not by admitting that they want more land or more wealth, but because those who have the land and wealth are heathens. (Which, I think, is what you were saying.)
It also fosters a sense of "us" against "them". Rather than all of us being members of the religion of man, each are members of a clique with our own dogma. None, by definition, suffer the existence of an alternative point of view. Even those who profess to follow no religion exclude those who do; we are right and they are wrong.
Can you have religion without organization? I don't know, but I don't think so.
