Knowing the loonie bin system in the US very little, I can only imagine that this is not a place to get well if you are sick, especially once you are commited by a court it will take forever to get out. I don't think the bin is any less horrific than the pen, but agree that they should not be released pre-maturely. On the other hand, do we have statistics that provide how many "insane" offenders were released before their prison terms would have been up? This may be a nice idea for a dissertation....
