They always say you can locate the source by tracing the money. It's just an easy way for them to see if they need to look more closely at you.
Believe it or not I have known a gentleman who was by "profession" a poker player. He had 0 income and no job (other than hang out at cassino's). His bank account would have made you awe and in this case he probably would be scrutinized for no reason.
In short, it is nobody's damn business if i bankroll and don't have a job (or a low paying one) as long as I don't have a criminal record and/or are suspect in an ongoing investigation!

You would have not stopped any of the 9/11 attackers that way as they all were international students on legal F1 visa's and hadn't broken any laws. Why subject anyone trying to travel to such scrutny???
