@Grisu - you have a point, if the attention we bring to it is offensive action against terrorists without regard to innocent civilians. Which, from many's perspectives, we have done. I'm just talking about defensive actions - increased border screening, increased border patrols, more human intelligence in the field, etc..
@hypedave - the question was "safer", not "safe". No one is ever safe, never will be. (Although an interesting study just came out a couple days ago that showed children today are much less likely to be victims of violent crime than their parents were - go figure. With all the hype on abductions, Amber Alerts, rampant drug use, date rape, guns in school, etc.. But I digress.)
