No. That's why the call it an impulse. Much as the young Romeo, it is a tragic flaw. Selfishness, in terms of genetics and evolution, is the mark of a survivor, but in an amoral world adapting its own morals, selfishness is inappropriate in varying degrees. Acting on instinct and intuition leads to failure unless you are in Hollywood, or that intuition is researched before practiced. Primal instinct is not courage, but far from it. It is an absence of thought, a mind for pleasure but veiled from consequences, and the very trait that leads to many failed marriages. As self-aware peoples, we have obligations to those afflicted by our actions as well as ourselves. Being able to consider that is far more courageous than any leap over a garden wall.
