Sonic and Mario live in such contrastingly different enviorments I dont know who would win. Probably depend on what type of enviorment they were fighting in, although Sonic has probably traversed more of them than Mario who stays in a more realistic realm. I choose secret option 3: Mario and Sonic would have Tails and Luigi battle it out while they go get wasted.
