I used to wear ties... Back before Avril was all... everywhere. And premade "cool" ties were on the shelves at hot Topic. The tie thing goes back to 70s and 80s punk, it was really an inside joke at first between people at rock concerts since ties were supposed to be dressy but then they were worn sloppily and stuff. So when avril's record company wanted her to have the anti-britney punk rawkin' look, they reached for some ties. I still wear ties once and a while, as belts. But usually not.
I still wear Dickies. Still my favourite company, even now. Some might call me an "avril wannabe" if they just saw me standing around, but I've been dressing the way I do for years. And I HATE Avril.
