Ummm, the bands I like aren't on TV. Most of them, anyway. The others are pretty much in that 1/10.
Yeah, Queer as Folk holds a certain gimmick to it. But it is what it is. It draws people in because it's so frank, so honest, and so graphic. It's completely revolutionary in a lot of ways. The creators obviously made it to appeal to people, and there's a difference in a fictional show doing that and a person being put out there claiming to be something they are not, having little or no talent. Queer as Folk has got something. Avril has nothing, outside her image. Are Avril and her record company taking advantage of the popularity of the punk image? Without a doubt. Is Queer as Folk taking advantage of the growing acceptance and intrest in gay culture? Maybe. The show, though, never pretends to be about gay culture. It's about the culture of it's characters, and isn't any sort of representation outside of them. (Although some would say it does claim to do that, even though each episode is completel with a disclaimer at the end) Avril though, pretends to be what punk is and what it's all about. Catching the differences?
