If I were to answer this, I would tell you that the United States owes nothing to anyone but those who have given it something in return. Those who take the time to learn and understand the culture, and those who pay their taxes, just as others do, through the means that they were given by genetics.
You might call me egoist pig, self-righteous and close-minded, but my family was in the same position as many immigrating families in the United States today. We have opened our borders, now its that family's turn to make a use of that opportunity. Welfare is in appropriate, especially for nationals, and I would venture to say for immigrants as well. The U.S. is not some buoy for everyone to run to, a shelter for those who feel that they are mistreated, and a protective blanket to hide people from the cold. I've seen the consequences of places in the Middle East, Cambodia, Vietnam, and I'm truly sorry that the world is not fair. But simply put, it is not, and there's nothing that anyone can do about it. There are slums in the United States, so of course there are slums in the rest of the world, even to extents far greater. I hope you understand where I'm coming from with this. If I were going out on a limb, the way some people push and push for immigrants to get civil rights and minority programs for their own benefit, is more or less reverse discrimination. Don't get me wrong, I'm Italian, so in some parts of America I would be considered a minority, but I feel that you cannot ignore the majority of people in a country, in this case the Caucasion, for the benefit of those who aren't even citizens.

infact if you payed not even close attention (just have read my posts) you would have seen that I not only Love this Country with a passion. but also have much respect for the fact that they allow people to come IN to be able to do something with thier life.
I don't believe in giving out hand outs, but I understand why they do it. my family never got hand outs because we either weren't offered or we didn't accept. chances are there are people out there that either don't have the option to go out and get the benefits or either have too much pride to, in a country where an american born speaking fluid english gets a job in a Mcdonalds, they have no right to complain if a Mexican is thier manager and was given benefits to make it up there.. simply because the benefits won't make you rich.. it'll just give you what you need for the moment.
you know what makes certain immigrants excel over certain american born people? 2 very important things
Intelligence, and Work Ethic.
because there is no way in hell you can say that an immigrant with nothing has more opportunities than an american with all the cards on thier table.
if your going to say do the immigrants deserve anything with a response to NO, then you should also consider turning it around and saying do American born Citizens who have been given every opportunity to make it (english speaking, and native born)
its a harsh world.. the benefits are there for those who need them.. like the quote I got from my friend.. if you are born in this country and you need help from the GOV then its your own damn fault.
also you forgot the little fact that you can be a citizen without being born in this country, both of my parents are citizens. so in reality you should've just said american born.
